Home automation: scenarios for all tastes

Home automation scenarios for all tastes

Under the term home automation, we group together different technologies that allow you to control and automate tasks in your home or apartment. With the main objective of making your daily life easier. Comfort, security, savings and entertainment. There are all kinds of scenarios, which are actually being tested on the EDF Pulse & You co-ideation platform.

The pyramid of needs. Does that remind you of something ? If you don’t work in management, maybe not. So this is it. This pyramid – also called Maslow’s pyramid – is the one that allows us to classify our needs by levels of importance. At its base, of course, there are our physiological needs: to eat, drink, sleep. Next come safety, comfort, recreation, etc. And if the Automation does not aim to meet our primary needs, it now appears capable of meeting many of our other needs.

But in which situations is it most effective? On the co-ideation platform EDF Pulse & You, the subject has been debated for some time now. After imagining all kinds of home automation scenarios that they would like to see applied at home, here is now that the Pulsers are invited to put them to the test in their real life.

By taking part in this experimentation phase, you too will be able, for example, to test some home automation scenarios intended to achieve savings – inenergy and D’silver. Some are offered directly by EDF. Like the one that allows you to change the color or flash your lights when you are in off-peak hours. Or whoever just sends you a SMS to notify you of a pricing change. Or the one that modifies your heating schedule when you switch to weekday hours or blue tempo day.

From savings to safety, including comfort and leisure

But when it comes to saving energy, Pulsers also have many ideas. Like the one that plans to cut unnecessary sockets (TV, music, etc.) when the system does not detect the presence of a person in the house. The one that offers to cut the power of its connected bulb outside of off-peak hours. On a bulb in three of its ceiling, in order to be able to light enough in peak hours. Or the one who imagines an automatic switch from a 15A subscription to a 7A subscription when summer arrives. Or more precisely, according to a certain consumption threshold.

Home automation can also be used to improve the security of a home. A Pulsor suggests, for example, that dangerous outlets could thus be automatically cut off. Other scenarios may allow a surveillance camera to be triggered in connection with the detection of a movement. Or, activate the alarm every time you leave your home.

On the comfort side, home automation scenarios can also have a role to play. This will literally allow you to program your home to make it as welcoming as possible when you get home from the office. Especially if you are, like most, it seems, automation enthusiast. A heating system that resets so that your home Sweet Home either at temperature just at the time of your return. A garage door that opens by itself when you approach. Or again, lights that light up on their own when you get home. And even if the notification aspect does not scare you, a mailbox that alerts you when mail is dropped there to avoid unnecessary detours.

Last major field of home automation, leisure. One scenario could include, for example, dim your lighting when you sit in front of your TV to watch a movie. Another might turn on the heater in your bathroom a little before your shower time. Or switch to relaxing lighting when you run your bath.

So what would be yours? And who will win between the scenarios proposed by EDF and those of the Pulseurs? Go to the platform to share your ideas!
