During the fourth quarter of 2022, the operating profit from energy production landed at SEK 463 million, based on revenues of SEK 565 million, which gives a profitability, operating margin, of a whopping 82 percent. During the same period the year before, the profit was SEK 112 million.
Holmen has both its own facilities with hydropower and wind power, mainly in northern Sweden. According to the company, the result would have been even better if the transmission capacity of electricity between north and south had not been limited.
In October 2021, Holmen submitted an application to build 32 wind turbines in the municipalities of Norrköping and Finspång. Recently, the governing parties in Norrköping, the Moderates, the Liberals and the Christian Democrats, announced that they will use their municipal veto against the plans.
