Majors was arrested in New York on Saturday following a report that he assaulted, harassed and choked a 30-year-old woman during a dispute between them.
The 33-year-old actor was arrested without incident while the woman was taken to hospital with minor injuries, police said in a statement.
Jonathan Majors denies all charges through his defense attorney, who claims Majors is “evidently the victim of an altercation with a woman he knows,” who was going through “an emotional crisis.” According to the defense, there is video evidence and several testimonies that are said to show that Jonathan Majors is innocent.
Majors was later released and is scheduled to appear in court on May 8.
Meanwhile, the US Army has withdrawn a promotional film aimed at a younger audience featuring the Hollywood star, calling the allegations “deeply troubling”.
Jonathan Majors made his breakthrough in 2020 in the movie “The last black man in San Fransisco”. He currently has roles in the blockbusters “Creed III” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”.
