9:02 p.m., Sunday June 9. France falls into a dizzying unknown, after the presidential announcement of the dissolution of the National Assembly. Since then, the campaign has been in full swing to elect the 577 deputies who will make up the National Assembly and who will shape the future majority that will govern the country. This Saturday, June 22, François Hollande, ex-president and candidate in Corrèze under the banner of the New Popular Front, predicted the end of “macronism”. Jean-Yves Le Drian, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, declares that he will “never” vote for a candidate from La France insoumise (LFI), even in the event of a duel with the National Rally.
Today’s prediction: Hollande and macronism
He is, according to AFP, the “king of selfies” on the Tulle and Ussel markets. Despite the “blows to be taken”, former president François Hollande is campaigning in the first constituency of Corrèze for the legislative elections, ensuring that he has no other ambition than to prevent the extreme right from coming to power. “When it’s too serious, you shouldn’t ask the question,” he assures. This rise of the RN is, according to him, to be recorded in the liabilities of Emmanuel Macron, whose mandate has “damaged” the parties and “the public spirit”. Macronism, concludes François Hollande, “it’s over”!
Statement of the day: no LFI vote for Le Drian
In the event of a duel between the National Rally and the New Popular Front in the second round of the legislative elections, Jean-Yves Le Drian, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, will “never vote LFI”. He justifies himself by mentioning, in an interview with West France, “the history of this movement and of a profound disagreement on values and methods”. On the other hand, if such a hypothesis occurs, “I will have no difficulty voting for a socialist, environmentalist or communist candidate to repel the RN”, he assures.
According to Jean-Yves Le Drian, Le Nouveau Front populaire, “it is Nupes 2, neither more nor less. However, there is an incompatibility between what Glucksmann’s candidacy for the European elections represents and the radicalism of La France insoumise. It is an agreement of submission of the democratic left with regard to the Insoumis.”
Today’s poll: the RN in front, its pursuers are progressing
The National Rally is still the big favorite in the legislative elections on June 30, with 35% voting intentions, two points better than the previous week. But its main competitors – the left alliance and the Macronist camp – are also progressing, according to an Opinionway survey unveiled this Saturday, June 22. According to this survey for The echoesthe New Popular Front would collect 28% of the votes (+ 3 points) and the current presidential majority 22% (+ 2 points).
The other competitors are reduced to a bare minimum, like the Republicans (6%, – 1 point), weakened after the serial novel which saw their president ally with the RN. Among the priorities of this election are, for voters, purchasing power and rising prices, ahead of immigration and social protection, details the survey. The latter was carried out via the Internet from June 19 to 20, 2024 on a representative sample of 1,009 people registered on the electoral lists. The margins of error are between 1.4 and 3.1 points.
The decryption of the day: these candidates angry with the scientific truth
Some names in a WhatsApp loop. An acquaintance, whispered in your ear, in a corridor between two television sets. Who to take? Who to refuse? Who is too “limited”? Between casting errors, real compromises or ideological proximity, the choices for the investitures of the different political groups have, once again this year, revealed conspiratorial or anti-science candidacies, whose theses go against established and consensual facts.
These candidates are propagating all kinds of theories, from the “pedophile executive club” to the possibility of curing cancer with thought. In total, and without claiming to be exhaustive, more than thirty profiles angry with rationality were able to be identified by L’Express, after an analysis carried out jointly with Conspiracy Watch, the Study Group of the Sectarian Phenomenon (GéPS ) and The fire extinguisher. If they mainly swell the ranks of the National Rally, almost no party escapes it. Read our decryption.
