Holidays within the Dalarna Region: Difficult but still somewhat better than previous years

– Summer is always a challenging period for healthcare, but we have worked intensively on planning to keep as much as possible open based on the staffing situation we have, says Åsa Dedering, director of healthcare.

That’s when the need for personnel is greatest

New for the year is that the region has analyzed the need for care places as it appeared week by week during the previous year, and based on that made an assessment of when the need will be greatest and when it will be easier to offer holidays.

The analysis shows that the pressure appears to be greatest in the first two weeks of July and the last week of the same month.

Rental staff needed

If the analysis of the need for care places turns out well, for example, planned operations will not have to decrease as much as in previous years – but rental staff will still be needed.

However, the extent of rental personnel will not be higher during the summer than during the normal season.

SEK 20,000 for a week’s holiday

All staff who sell holiday weeks to the region will receive compensation of SEK 20,000 per week and this means an increase for everyone.

Buying vacation weeks from staff who have already worked hard, however, does not see the regional management as a long-term solution to the difficulties of giving the nursing staff vacation.

All will be offered four consecutive weeks of leave.
