As part of the “learning vacation” operation, the “learning camps” will take place next summer and for the 4th year in a row. 225,000 minors have already taken advantage of this scheme, which allows children from modest backgrounds or in difficulty to go on vacation.

At the end of March 2023, the Secretary of State for Youth and Universal National Service announced the renewal of the “Learning Colos” operation during a meeting with the rectors. “The access of more and more children to vacations represents significant social progress in our country, made possible in particular thanks to the “Learning Colos” device, that the government has decided to renew for the 4th consecutive year“said Sarah El Haïry. 225,000 children have already benefited from this system and the Secretary of State reaffirmed her desire to see this figure increase. In a publication of March 23, INSEE also revealed that the proportion of children who cannot go on vacation for at least one week a year had almost been halved (1.64) since 2009, going from 17.4% to 10.6%.

What are colos or learning vacations?

The “learning camps” are part of the “Learning holidays” operation“whose objective is to contribute to the development of children while ensuring the consolidation of their learning, through educational, cultural, sports and leisure activities, supervised by professionals. They concern young people from CP to Terminale and take different forms. Labeled by the State, learning colonies revolve around fun and educational activities to allow children, out of the blue, to carry out some revisions in sight before the start of the school year in September.

Who are learning camps for?

These camps are open to all families who wish to children from 3 to 17 years old:

  • Whose family quotient is less than or equal to 1,500 euros
  • with a disability
  • in a situation of school dropout
  • subject to child welfare (ASE)
  • residing in a priority district of city policy (QPV) or in a rural revitalization zone (ZRR)

These learning camps last a minimum of 5 days and revolve around a theme perfectly adapted to the age of the children such as a language stay, a discovery stay by the sea, a sport and nature stay…
