During his seven years at Hogwarts, Harry Potter learns a lot. From Arithmancy to Potions, there are many unusual school subjects at the Magic School. The teachers at Hogwarts are also capable of a lot outside of the classroom. But which professor is actually the most powerful?
How was the ranking created? This list is about magical abilities, especially in combat. All professors who worked at Hogwarts at some point during Harry’s time at school were considered. The basis is both films and books.
The ranking was created based on the personal assessment of MeinMMO author Linda B., who has been a huge fan of Harry Potter since her youth. She is a self-confessed Ravenclaw and has a special love for Rufus Beck’s audio books, which she plays on a constant loop.
10. Gilderoy Lockhart
Even though he likes to pretend, Gilderoy Lockhart is anything but a gifted magician. He owes his fame solely to his talent for oblivion magic. He directed these against gifted witches and wizards so that he could take credit for their successes.
His abilities are very one-sided, but still dangerous. So Lockhart barely makes it into this ranking with the most charming smile ever (at least according to Hexenwoche).
9. Dolores Umbridge
There is hardly a more hated character in Harry Potter than Dolores Umbridge. Even though as a teacher she always limited herself to dry theory as a “defense against the dark arts”, she herself was an unpleasant and unscrupulous opponent. She even tried to cast an unforgivable curse on Harry.
With her resolute and efficient nature, she made it far in the ministry. On the other hand, she also had great difficulty dealing with Fred and George Weasley’s pranks, for example. Therefore, it only ends up in ninth place in this ranking.
8. Hagrid
Hagrid, the Hogwarts gamekeeper and later Care of Magical Creatures teacher, was expelled from magic school in his third year. His wand was then destroyed by the Ministry, but he was able to enclose its broken parts in a pink umbrella.
Every now and then he secretly performs magic with this umbrella, which is remarkable in itself. Because we know from Ron how difficult it is to control a damaged wand. He also managed to always perform his magic non-verbally, i.e. without a magic formula.
As a half-giant, he also has above-average resistance. He withstood several shock spells when five Aurors, together with Umbridge, tried to take him to Azkaban.
Despite his amiable nature, Hagrid is absolutely not to be underestimated in battle. If he had received a completed education, he would undoubtedly have been placed much higher in this ranking.
