Hogwarts Legacy 2 could be a feature of many modern games, but fans are strongly against it

Fans of Hogwarts Legacy are eagerly awaiting a successor. At the same time, they fear that the game could be adapted to modern practices and for this reason they started a petition.

What about Hogwarts Legacy 2? The first part let players slip into the shoes of a student and experience all sorts of adventures at the popular school for witchcraft and wizardry. The game was aimed exclusively at single players and didn’t have a lot of bells and whistles.

It was worth it: Hogwarts Legacy was enormously successful, also attracted many viewers on Twitch and brought a lot of money into the publisher Warner Bros. Games’ coffers. According to statista.com, the game sold around 30 million times worldwide.

Because of the financial success alone, a successor was very likely. But fans are worried because Warner Bros. has been pursuing a design philosophy for some time that could also make Hogwarts Legacy 2 a different game.

A petition from many concerned fans

What do the fans fear? Warner Bros. dabbled in live service games with games like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. And although this example was not successful, this approach has been widely used for several years.

The aim is to bind players to a game for as long as possible. Battle passes, grind or microtransactions are used for this. Fans of Hogwarts Legacy now fear that the successor to the popular title could also receive such functions.

What are the fans doing? They have therefore started a petition on the change.org platform in which they call on Warner Bros. to continue to stick to pure single player without an additional live service component.

According to the initiators of the petition, the success of Part 1 is due to the fact that it was a pure single-player title. The concern is that people wouldn’t want a live service game because it would just be filled with microtransactions and a lot of grind.

The text goes even further, calling live service a “scourge on the industry that is hated by many gamers and developers.”

According to the initiators of the petition, successful live service games such as League of Legends or Fortnite are successful primarily because they offer a unique gaming experience. Live service is just a secondary aspect.

But Hogwarts Legacy is good as it is, fans think. As a live service game, it might fail and fail to live up to the true potential of a sequel.

How successful is the petition? The preliminary goal is 15,000 signatures, currently (as of December 2nd, 2024) over 11,300 people have signed. It remains to be seen whether their voices will be heard by those responsible at Warner Bros. Games. It is also still unconfirmed whether Hogwarts Legacy will even be a live service game.
