— He got worse at the beginning of the week. He had an infection in his lungs and had difficulty breathing and it could not be lifted, says his former colleague and close friend Ulf Lindgren to the newspaper.

Olsson, who is inducted into the Swedish ice hockey Hall of Fame, has refereed major finals during his career, including the Olympics and the World Cup.

Dag “Daggen” Olsson suffered from Parkinson’s disease a few years ago. He lived to be 79 years old.

— I remember Dag as a nice referee on the ice. Dag had that important twinkle in his eye during the matches. I was young when I got to meet Dag and had respect for him, says the Swedish hockey legend Nicklas Lidström to Aftonbladet.
