Hockey player Josine Koning Sportsperson of the Year Utrecht

UTRECHT – Hockey player Josine Koning has been elected Sportsperson of the Year in Utrecht. The goalkeeper from Utrecht won gold at the Olympic Games in 2021 with Orange. She also won the FIH Pro League and the European Championship with the Netherlands. With her club Den Bosch took the national title and the win in the Euro Hockey League.

Utrechter Saïd El Badaoui (combat sport) named best sports coach. The Boys Eight of Viking J18 (rowing) was chosen as Sports Team of the Year and the prize for the best talent goes to short track star Diede van Oorschot.

Due to the measures regarding the corona virus, the prizes were not awarded in the Jaarbeurs, just like last year, but via the SportUtrecht website. New this year was that the Sportsman and Sportswoman categories were merged into one Athlete of the Year.

Talent of the year: Diede van Oorschot (short track speed skating)
Other nominees: Floris Sujecki (karate), Leon Visser (short track speed skating)

Sports Team of the Year: URV Viking J18 (rowing)
Other nominees: Kampong H1 (hockey), UZSC H1 (water polo)

Sports compliment of the year: Vechtzoom Sports Park
Other nominees: Mitchell Sandler (tai chi), Vince and Morris Alders (pump track), Wilco Nijland (Sportworx)
