The Olympic Committee’s Center of Excellence distributes winter performance support to ten Winter Olympics.
The Olympic Committee’s Center of Excellence will provide € 2,323,800 in intensification support for winter sports for next season.
– It can be clearly said that the success curve in Finnish top sports is rising on a broad front. Ice hockey and cross-country skiing continue to be top sports, acting director of the Olympic Committee’s Center of Excellence Leena Paavolainen says.
Support is available for ten Winter Olympics, which are alpine skiing, biathlon, freestyle, hockey, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, speed skating, figure skating and combined. Ice hockey and cross-country skiing, which Paavolainen mentions as top sports, receive the most support, each worth half a million euros.
The Winter Olympics and cross-country skiing will attract a total of EUR 2,250,000. Alpine skiing, curling, snowboarding and combined cross-country and biathlon support receive a total of EUR 73,800 for the Winter Paralympics.
A year ago, a total of EUR 2,298,000 was allocated to winter sports aid, so the amount has increased slightly. In addition to the subsidies now announced, the Winter Sports Athlete Grants awarded by the Ministry of Education and Culture will be distributed in the summer.
The forecast shows Finland two medals from Paris
Last winter, Finland achieved eight medals and eleven points at the Beijing Olympics. The Olympic Committee has already set a goal of a combined pot of ten medals and 20 points for the 2024 Paris Summer Games and the Beijing Winter Olympics.
Thus, two medals and nine points will be available for the Paris Summer Olympics to meet the target. Responsible for top sports data on the Olympic Committee Ilkka Palomäki reported on Monday that the forecast based on competition monitoring currently shows two medals from Paris.
At the Tokyo Summer Olympics, Finland won two medals, although the forecast looked less than one.
