The Haldimand Norfolk Health Unit reported Wednesday 18 area residents are hospitalized with COVID-19.
Seven people are in the intensive care unit, an increase of one compared to Tuesday’s report.
Due to data lags of approximately 48 hours, figures from Monday, January 31 show the in-patient occupancy at hospitals in Simcoe, Dunnville and Hagersville were at 100 per cent, while ICU occupancy was at 90 per cent.
There are a total of 164 in-patient beds and 10 ICU beds in the region’s three hospitals.
The number of outbreaks in Haldimand-Norfolk remains at 20:
- – Retirement men, 5 (+1)
- – Long-term care homes, 4 (-1)
- – Other congregate settings, 9
- – Farm, 1
- – Non-COVID-19 outbreaks, 1
According to Public Health Ontario, outbreaks are ongoing at the following facilities:
- – Cedarwood Village, Simcoe, fewer than five staff
- – Delhi Long Term Care Centre, Delhi, 14 residents
- – Grandview Lodge, Dunnville, fewer than five residents, fewer than five staff
- Norfolk General Hospital announced Monday that an outbreak at the hospital nursing home was declared over.
Of the 626 long-term care homes in Ontario 327 are currently in outbreak, a decrease of 15 from the previous week. There are 64 LTC homes where outbreaks are only among staff members.
Across the province, 2,213 residents and 2,292 staff at long-term care homes currently have COVID-19.
In terms of vaccinations, the HNHU has administered 195,877 doses of COVID-19 over the course of the vaccine rollout.
An additional 35,210 doses were obtained by Haldimand-Norfolk residents at sources outside the health unit’s jurisdiction.
To date, 66,378 people have completed their two-dose vaccine series, and the health unit has given 27,710 booster doses.
The proportion of the population over the age of five who are fully vaccinated is 77.7 per cent, while 3.8 per cent are partially vaccinated and 18.5 per cent remain unvaccinated.
Anyone over the age of 12 who is eligible for a first, second or third dose of a COVID-19 vaccine may now walk-in without a booked appointment at:
- – Norfolk General Hospital in Simcoe on weekdays from 10 am to 2 pm through to Feb 4
- – Riverside Exhibition Center (151 Caithness St. E., Caledonia) on Feb. 2 and 3 from 10 am to 3 pm
A GO-VAXX mobile (bus-based) clinic will be held Wednesday, Feb. 16 from noon to 7 pm at the Waterford Royal Canadian Legion located at 223 Nichol St., Waterford. Appointments must be booked through Ontario’s COVID-19 vaccination portal at covid19.ontariohealth.ca or by calling the Provincial Vaccine Contact Center at 1-833-943-3900. These clinics will be posted on the portal at 8 am the day before the clinic.
A GO-VAXX indoor clinic will be offered on Sunday, Feb. 6 from 10 am to 4 pm at Hagersville Secondary School, 70 Parkview Road in Hagersville.

Public Health Ontario reported Wednesday 2,939 people are hospitalized with the virus, a decrease of 152 from the previous day.
Of those, 1,497 are fully vaccinated cases, 127 partially vaccinated, and 573 unvaccinated.
The number of positive cases in ICU units dropped by 18 to 522, while 322 cases require the use of a ventilator.
The province reported Wednesday 3,909 new cases of COVID-19, and 67 deaths.
There are currently 41,534 active cases in Ontario.
