HJK starts qualifying for the Champions League against the Latvian

SJK will face the Tallinn team Flora, who advanced to the group stage of the Conference League. KuPS got an opponent from Georgia, Inter Kosovo.

The Helsinki Football Club will face the Latvian Riga FS in the first qualifying round of the Men’s Champions League. HJK will start the two-part match with a home game, which will be played on July 5th or 6th. Away match will be played in Riga on July 12 or 13.

Riga FS is a familiar opponent for HJK from the beginning of the year. The teams met in a practice match in Helsinki at the end of January, when Riga was stronger 2-0. Last year, Riga celebrated the Latvian championship for the first time and is now playing in the Champions League qualifiers for the first time.

The losing party of the match will continue directly to the third qualifying round of the Conference League with the European Football Association Uefa.

HJK bowed to a Latvian opponent in the summer of 2019, when Riga FC was slightly better in the European League qualifiers. Last season, HJK advanced to the group stage of the Conference League played for the first time and was third in its group.

Uefa will continue the raffle on Wednesday in Nyon, Switzerland. Then it will be clear which team HJK or Riga will face in the second qualifying round.

SJK travels to the southern neighbor

Uefa will also be raffled off on Tuesday in the Conference League’s first qualifying round. Of the Finnish teams, the Kuopio Palloseura will face Dila Gori from Georgia, Inter will measure Drita from Kosovar and the Seinäjoki Football Club will fight against the Estonian Flora.

The opening matches will be played on July 7th and the other parts a week later.

Kuila’s opponent Dila Gori fell to Zilina in Slovakia in the opening round of the Conference League qualifier last year. KuPS, on the other hand, marched handsomely last year to the final round of the Conference League qualifier, where Union Berlin was stronger than the Kuopio team.

Inter’s opponent Drita has been involved in previous years’ euro qualifiers. The team bowed one goal in the Conference League qualifiers last year to the Dutch Feyenoord, who eventually advanced to the finals of the competition.

Last year, Flora became the first Estonian team to play in the group stage of the Uefa club team competition. The team was last in the Conference League, but the Tallinn team once defeated the Serbian Partizan and played twice against Anorthos, represented by Paulus Arajuure.
