Microsoft Edge Canary brings a new feature to the browser world and even draws attention to one that Google Chrome does not have yet.
Canary version on Windows 11 and other platforms will now have the option to export your browsing history as a CSV file. This feature will make it even easier to switch between major versions of Microsoft Edge.
Microsoft Edge Canary will be able to export browsing history
This feature, noticed by Neowin and Leopeva64, is currently undergoing A/B testing in Microsoft Edge Canary version 117.0.2026.0 (not currently visible to us).
After installing this version, you can immediately see the export browsing history option under the three-dot menu in the browser’s menu bar. You can also access it at edge://history.
From here you can choose where you want to save your browsing history. There is also an alternative way to manually enable the feature by changing the properties when you right-click on the browser’s icon. Additionally, Neowin explains that you can drag the file over an open Microsoft Edge window and the browser will import it.
The option to export data is an unexpected development
This feature is a pretty big improvement because browsers often offer the option to fetch browsing history from other web browsers. However, you cannot export your data. Typically, browsing data is synced from within the browser, Microsoft Account in Edge, Google Account in Chrome, Apple Account in Safari, or Firefox account in Firefox.
It’s a big step forward for Microsoft to take control of users’ browsing data outside of offline syncing. Because it means you are less dependent on Microsoft for the task. If you want to start using Edge on a new PC, you can export this CSV file and then import it on your new PC to continue browsing.
However, you may have to wait a bit. Microsoft Edge Canary is the playground of new features. Of course, this does not mean that the feature will be sent to the stable version of Edge, but we will see what happens.
