A red warning for exceptional heat has been issued for the first time ever in the UK. A national emergency has therefore been introduced by the government.
According to the National Weather Institute, Met Office, temperatures could exceed 40 degrees for the first time ever on Monday or Tuesday next week.
The nights are also expected to be exceptionally hot.
A red warning is issued only when it is very likely that there will be a danger to life, with significant disruptions to travel, energy supply and possible extensive damage to property and infrastructure.
