Argentina are through to the World Cup final after defeating Croatia 3-0, at the Lusail Iconic Stadium, in Qatar. The golden dream thus lives on for what is considered by many to be the greatest football player of all time.
It was also Lionel Messi who scored the game’s first goal when he slotted home a penalty in the 34th minute, behind Croatia’s Livakovic. Just five minutes later, Julián Álvarez, with some luck, got past the entire Croatian back line and 2-0 was a fact.
With his goal, Messi made history as the Argentinian national team player who scored the most World Cup goals, eleven. He also moves up into joint scoring league lead with his five goals in Qatar, alongside France’s Kylian Mbappé.
3-0 – a work of art
The match through was mainly characterized by Messi, who hardly put a foot wrong during the 90 minutes played.
In the 69th, the superstar dribbled forward along the edge and into the penalty area, before passing diagonally inside to Álvarez who made it 3-0 – a result that would last the match.
On Sunday, it’s time for the World Cup final, when Argentina will face either Morocco or France, who will meet on Wednesday.
