In 1899, the city hotel Falks was destroyed in a fire. The hotel was built and inaugurated in 1902 as what we today call Waxholm’s hotel. The Art Nouveau-inspired building was designed by the architect Erik Lallerstedt.
In 2020, Thérèse Liljeqvist took over Waxholm’s hotel
Year 2020 took Therese Liljeqvist over the operational responsibility of Waxholm’s hotel, but the road has been bumpy and now the hotel has had to file for bankruptcy, which P4 Stockholm was the first to report on.
The hotel will be open as usual through the month of November, but what the future looks like is uncertain.
– The bankruptcy administrator runs the hotel and my hope is that there will be a new operator who will take over the contract from December and I hope that our talented staff will be able to continue working, but there is no guarantee, says Thérèse Liljeqvist to Mitt i.

According to Thérèse Liljeqvist, the bankruptcy is about high rent for the property. She terminated the lease back in June and since then the property owner has been looking for a new operator. But so far no one has wanted to take over the business.
– They are trying to find an operator, but I think it will be difficult to find someone who will take up the contract with the rent that is now, says Thérèse Liljeqvist to In the middle of.
The hotel, which has existed for over 122 years, is a well-known point for archipelago travelers and the hotel’s restaurant has been used as a filming location for SVT’s popular TV program “Första dejten”.

In a post on Facebook, Thérèse Liljeqvist talks about her sadness that the hotel has had to file for bankruptcy.
“I’m in complete despair today because I’ve just filed for bankruptcy for Waxholm’s hotel. It’s so sad, but there’s no other way out when the last straws I grasped for didn’t hold,” she writes on Facebook and continues:
“I and all the staff at the hotel have fought so hard and it hurts my soul and heart that it still ends like this, maybe with closure and maybe with unemployment, this despite so much has developed positively at the hotel. But now it’s like is.”
