Chris Cleave, 54, was ambushed by two people on a motorcycle while traveling in his red Audi in the resort of Playa del Carmen, near Cancun, on Saturday.
After the gunfire, Chris was shot in the head and died. His 14-year-old daughter, who was with him at the time, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Cleave’s older brother, Nick, said that Chris had spoken to his daughter, and that the little girl was discharged. Nick “We’re taking care of him after his father was murdered.” said. Saying that his brother likes to travel and decided to settle in Mexico, Nick stated that his brother is very successful in the real estate business and is a respected business owner.
Stating that they were always in contact with his brother, that they spoke a few days before the incident and that everything was fine, Nick said, “He was not married, but he had a daughter from an affair while in Mexico.” said.
THREATENED: “WE ARE COMING FOR CHRIS”
There are no allegations that Cleave was involved in drugs, but local reports say a man thought to be him was threatened last year. The Spanish threatening message, believed to have been written to Cleave and two others, was released on March 5, 2021, at a luxury beach area called Playacar in Playa del Carmen. ‘We’re also coming for Chris with the red Audi,’ the message said. There was an expression.
There is no claim that any illegal activity took place at the facility where the message was left, but according to unconfirmed local reports, the mysterious people behind the threat are allegedly trying to sell drugs there.
Local prosecutors have since confirmed that two arrests have been made in Cleave’s death and that the weapons used have been seized.
Police said one of the murder suspects tried to flee on foot after getting off the motorcycle during the chase and was caught hiding in the bushes. The other was stopped on the motorcycle a short time later.
KILLERS FOLLOWED
The cops think it’s a planned attack, not a random murder. He also speculates that the killers followed Chris from his home and killed him after he stopped him in traffic at 9.30am on Saturday.
Chris’ brother Nick expressed that the family was very upset, worried and trying to gather the family together for protection. Shocked friends also shared their sadness on social media.
Originally from Truro, Cornwall, Cleave had lived in Mexico for over a decade after moving there in 2014.
Cancun is a popular tourist destination, but gang fights in the area proliferate, with violent clashes continuing.
Gang members started a violent shootout at a tourist beach in November last year, in which two gangsters died. Two weeks ago, two tourists were caught in the middle of a gang fight in Tulum. German and American tourists were shot dead in this conflict.
