His family lives on food from garbage: “Found 26 frozen lobsters”

Andreas Jakobsson from Uppsala has become a bit of a cooking star. But not just any cooking – food from garbage cans. When Jakobsson visits Efter fem, he shows off his latest finds. – I found 26 lobsters, still frozen, says the Uppsala resident to Efter fem. For ten years, Andreas Jacobsson has been looking for edible food in garbage cans and containers outside grocery stores – and the findings have been shocking. – Everything that is sold in grocery stores I have found by now, he says. The latest finds range from 26 frozen lobsters, around twenty chocolate bars and a five-pack of beer. Finds that he not infrequently comes across. – It’s a typical January find. You don’t want it to run out by New Year’s, so you load up and get to throw some away, he explains, showing off a large frozen lobster. Growing interest When inflation took off and food prices increased, Andreas Jacobsson noticed some competition among the waste. On a bad day, Jacobsson can bring three full grocery bags with him. – I understood that a lot of food was thrown away, but I have lived with this delusion that you throw away food when it has gone bad. I thought the stores did that too. Watch Andreas Jacobsson show off his best finds in the player above.
