Storm Hilary, which is mainly threatening western Mexico, was downgraded from a category four to a lower category on the Saffir-Simpson five-point storm scale late Saturday.

The storm’s path is also expected to cross the southwestern United States.

But the storm can still cause “devastating damage”, reports the US hurricane center NHC. The damage can thus be similar to that from a hurricane according to the NHC.

Mexican authorities urge residents mainly in Baja California to be prepared for the storm and subsequent risks of damage after strong winds and flooding.

During Sunday morning local time, Sunday evening Swedish time, Hilary moves towards the southern part of California and Nevada, and is then expected to have the strength of a tropical storm.
