According to Sirpa Korkat, chairman of the skiing association, the figures in the financial statements are the result of strategic and controlled decisions.
The Finnish Ski Federation announces that its result for the eight-month financial period between 1 November 2023 and 30 June 2024 was a deficit of EUR 1.43 million.
According to the ski association, the losses are primarily due to the closure of the association’s subsidiary Nordic Ski Finland (NSF) Oy. As a result of the liquidation, NSF’s capital loans and share capital have been written down by a total of 1.08 million euros.
According to the release, the result will not affect the upcoming competition season, which has taken the overall situation into account in the budget.
– I want to emphasize that the figures in the financial statements are the result of strategic and controlled decisions. We are looking at our situation in the long term. I am happy that since spring, throughout our change process, we have had the ability and courage to make difficult but responsible decisions, President of the Ski Association Sirpa Korkatti said in a statement released Wednesday.
– We do not postpone problems to the future, but clean the table at once so that we can truly build a sustainable economy and operations.
The accounting period was shorter than usual, because in June it was decided in Hiihtoliito to move the association’s accounting period to the period from July 1 to June 30. For the next season, from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025, the Ski Association’s budget is approximately nine million euros, and it aims for a profit of 113,000 euros. The share of elite sports in the budget is 3.8 million.
– We have built the budget for the upcoming competition season very disciplinedly, also ensuring that we have the opportunity to react to surprises when necessary. In order to flourish, one must first find out. I dare to say that we are at the stage in the Ski Federation now that we can look towards the future with curiosity and enthusiasm, concludes Korkatti.
In the previous financial period from June 2022 to October 2023, the Ski Federation made a loss of 1.28 million euros.
