Highway 40 rehab project starting Monday

Highway 40 road rehabilitation work around London Line is expected to start Monday.

AT notice from McLean Taylor Construction, contracted by Ontario’s Transportation Ministry, says the estimated two-season project — slated to finish in November 2024 — will include removing and replacing electrical components, removing and replacing steel beam guiderails, and rehabilitating the roadway along an 850-metre stretch.

Ministry officials in 2021 indicated the project will structurally rehabilitate both Highway 40 bridges crossing London Line, rehabilitate the pavement, add traffic signals and lighting, and improve drainage.

Plans are to work on the southbound lanes this year and northbound lanes in 2024, the St. Marys-based contractor said in a notice to Sarnia city hall.

The road will remain open to traffic, but a ramp offering southbound access from London Line will close, along with lanes leading to it, the notice says. There will also be some resurfacing on London Line.

A city London Line pathway project has been waiting on the ministry project, city officials have said.
