Every year the meteor shower reaches its peak at the same time. “This year, the circumstances are just not ideal,” says Felix Bettonvil of Sonnenborgh Observatory in Utrecht. “Unfortunately, it is a full moon this year and therefore not so dark. Shooting stars are best seen in clear and dark weather. In a favorable year, there are about 60 to 80 meteors at the peak. This year we have so a bit of bad luck.”
