The attack took place at the entrance to Ariel, the largest Israeli settlement in the West Bank. Two individuals opened fire on a guard who later succumbed to his injuries. An attack described as heroic operation in Gaza by the Islamist movement Hamas, which claims it is a ” answer ” to the ” attacks on al-Aqsa “, referring to to the recent violence on the esplanade of the Mosques of Jerusalem.

The Israeli security services immediately launched a gigantic manhunt in the West Bank to try to find the two assailants. And for its part, the Palestinian Ministry of Health announced the death of a Palestinian in his twenties during clashes with the Israeli army in the village of Azzoun, located about twenty kilometers from Ariel.

It is not known at this stage if the two events are linked. But they show that the tension in the region is still very high. On Friday 29 April, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent, 42 Palestinians were injured during clashes on the esplanade of the Mosques in Jerusalem in this last friday of ramadan.
