High summer heat this weekend – then it turns around

Earlier this week, a historic record was broken. On Wednesday, 31.1 was measured in Helsingborg – the highest September temperature since 1975.

– It is remarkable and historic. It is still quite common to have temperatures of up to 25 degrees at the beginning of September, but such a long period of over 25 degrees is unusual, says Emma Härenstam.

According to her, there are upwards of 25 weather stations that also broke local heat records for September.

Mälardalen and the west coast

During the weekend, we can see temperatures up to 30 degrees in some places. It is expected to be warmest in the Mälardalen and along the west coast during Sunday.

Until Monday, SMHI warns of high temperatures in large parts of Götaland and parts of Sveland. During the day, you can count on over 26 degrees – locally even higher.

But during the beginning of the week, the forecast shows more normal temperatures for the first half of September – around 15 degrees.

– There will be more unsettled weather with rain, wind and significantly lower temperatures, says Emma Härenstam.

Is this the last gasp of summer we’ll see this weekend?

– We probably won’t see temperatures above 30 degrees here in the future. There is something called a British summer and it is not impossible that we will have another last gasp. But bathing weather, 25 to 30 degrees, that’s probably the last straw.
