The high inflation blocks an already strong low-price trend in trade in Sweden, which, according to the trade association, will only strengthen. In an otherwise gloomy trading period, several low-price chains are going against the grain and the giant in Halland, Ullared, is also feeling the competition.
The companies that flourish
They broke daily sales records recently, but overall the return after the pandemic has been slower than expected for Gekås in Ullared. So far this year, visitors are seven percent fewer than before the pandemic, and perhaps increased competition may have contributed.
Chains such as Jula, Rusta and Dollarstore are flourishing in an otherwise gloomy commercial Sweden, in a low-price trend that is strengthened by inflation.
– We believe that the low price trend will increase, says Henrik Ekelund, business policy expert Swedish trade.
At Gekås, sales of daily goods have increased by almost 30 percent, but even low prices do not escape inflation.
