Right now there is a fire risk in forest and land, according to SMHI’s fire risk forecast.
There is a fire ban in the entire Stockholm County.
– It appears to continue to be high pressure. On Sunday, we can reach temperatures of 25 degrees, says SMHI’s on-duty meteorologist Emma Härenstam.
This weekend, the swinging spring weather is expected to give way to summer winds.
But with warm weather comes dry ground and increased fire risk. SMHI has issued a risk of forest fires in the southern parts of the country. The forest fire risk is greatest in parts of Götaland and south-eastern Svealand.
On Thursday afternoon the Stockholm county board issued a fire ban in the entire county as a result of the drought and the warm weather.
In the last few days alone, several forest fires have ravaged southern Sweden.
Large forest fires
Among other things, in Nitta outside Ulricehamn, a forest fire of almost 25 hectares has required emergency assistance with water-scooping aircraft. And in Kornsta outside Hallstavik, 30,000 square meters of forest burned. Both fires have had problems with strong winds, which made extinguishing work extra difficult.
– The fact that forest and ground are starting to burn can be caused by embers from grilling or sparks from train tracks, says Emma Härenstam, meteorologist on duty at SMHI.
So far, the reasons behind the fires outside Ulricehamn and Hallstavik are unclear.
Kenny Thuresson, regional operations leader in the western rescue region, urges people to be careful.
– When you are going to make a fire or grill, you should of course understand that the person who lights the fire is responsible. You need to have the conditions and tools to put out the fire and must not leave it, says Kenny Thuresson.
The call: Stay tuned
And even though there is no fire ban in the municipality, the fire risk forecast can still be high.
– You have to keep track of what is prevailing where you are, says Kenny Thuresson, regional operations leader in the western rescue region.
Here can you keep track of what the fire risk forecast looks like in your municipality.
