What does Sápmi mean to you?
– It means home to me. I have several at home on earth, but Sápmi is truly at home. It’s a place where I can be Sami without being constantly hacked, destroyed and mocked. It is a place where you can develop as a Sami. It is a wonderful place.
What is the best thing about being gay?
– The best is nature and the reindeer. There are certain things that we Sami have together that are so very nice, warm and loving. Sami relationships are very wonderful. The warm closeness that we Sami people have with each other.
Who is your role model?
– My grandmother Iris was a role model. But in fact, Maxida Märäk has been a great support in a difficult situation in Jokkmokk and has also been a role model with her great courage. And so I must say there are some Marakatt artists.
If you can dream – what would be the best news on SVT Sápmi ever?
– It would be absolute that we have autonomy in Sápmi in many matters and that we have a right of veto. Imagine that all of a sudden you say that the ILO has passed and we have the right of veto when it comes to mines, nuclear power plants and major interventions in nature.
