  • Hezbollah retaliated by shelling Israel

    Iran-backed Hezbollah says it attacked Israel in retaliation for Saturday’s Israeli attack on southern Lebanon — in which three health workers were killed and two wounded, according to Lebanese authorities.

    In a statement, the Shia militia stated that it had fired rockets at the town of Kiryat Shmona in Israel, a few kilometers from the border with Lebanon.

    Israel and Hezbollah have shelled each other almost daily since the war in Gaza broke out last year.

    One person has been taken to hospital after a drowning alarm outside Bonäs in Mora.

    Emergency services and an ambulance were called to the scene at 9:15 p.m.

    – The person has been taken to hospital, says Anna Kajsa Gullberg-Dahl team leader at SOS alarm.

    There is no information on the state of the damage.

    A man who was swimming in Dalby outside Lund has been shot at with what was understood to be an air weapon, the police say.

    The man is said to have a minor wound on his back.

    No one has been arrested.

  • Chaotic protests – half a million on the streets

    Half a million people are protesting in the streets of Tel Aviv, demanding that the Israeli government bring home the people still held hostage by Hamas.

    Violence has now broken out between police and protesters, reports say Haaretz.

    Several fires have also broken out.

    – Netanyahu is a murderer, shout the protesters.

    According to Haaretz, the protesters are trying to force the police cordons.

    Tens of thousands of people have gathered outside the headquarters of the Israeli army in Tel Aviv on Saturday night, reports The Times of Israel.

    The demonstrators are demanding that the government enter into an agreement with terror-labeled Hamas on a ceasefire so that those held hostage in Gaza can return home.

    According to the organizer, as many as 400,000 people are expected to participate in the demonstration.

    Protesters have also gathered outside Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence in Jerusalem.

    Four people have been taken to hospital during the Stockholm half marathon, according to the Stockholm region.

    A police operation is underway in Stenby Eskilstuna.

    Dick Cheney, Republican vice president under George W. Bush, is joining a growing number of prominent Republicans who are turning against Donald Trump.

    Cheney will vote for Democrat Kamala Harris in the presidential election in the United States in November, he states in a CNN interview.

    – He can never be allowed to gain power again, he says of the Republican presidential candidate and former president Donald Trump.

    Cheney was George Bush’s vice president from 2001–2009.

    Other prominent Republicans — both former governors and congressmen — have also voiced their support for Harris in the election. Among the more famous, former congressman Adam Kinzinger, strategist Ana Navarro and Trump’s former press secretary Stephanie Grisham stand out.

  • German train chaos after computer error

    A computer error at Frankfurt Central Station has stopped all trains to and from the city. The problem is causing disruption to all German train traffic, with major delays as a result, reports the public service company ARD.

    The fault affects all train traffic in the state of Hesse, including commuter trains. Rail traffic to and from Frankfurt airport, the sixth largest in Europe, is also at a standstill.

    Frankfurt is one of the largest hubs for trains in Europe and, according to ARD, has just over 1,200 departures per day.

    Exactly what caused the error is still unclear.

    A teenage boy is detained on probable cause on suspicion of attempted murder after a boy of the same age was shot in a school toilet in Trångsund.

    – My client denies the criminal suspicions and has been detained despite his young age. What is important to me is that he gets a good life in custody, says lawyer Sogand Sasanpour.

    According to public prosecutor Urszula Grabowska, it was important that the boy was detained.

    – We have assessed that there is a great risk of him influencing the criminal investigation if he was at large and that is the reason for the arrest, she says.

    Charges must be filed by September 18 at the latest.

  • Children injured after explosion during chemistry show in Denmark

    Four people have been injured after an explosion during a chemistry show at Tønder library in Denmark, reports TV2.

    – Two have been seriously injured, and there are children among the injured, says Sune Loklindt, the head of duty at the police in South Jutland, to the television channel.

    One of the organizers is among the injured and the remaining three are children, Tønder municipality’s communications manager Ulrik Pedersen told TV2.

    No one has life-threatening injuries, according to Pedersen.

  • North Korea sends new junk balloons to South Korea

    On Saturday, military officials announced that North Korea had sent balloons, likely carrying debris, toward South Korea, the South Korean Yonhap.

    Saturday is the fourth day of balloon launches this week.

    Now authorities are warning citizens about falling objects in the area around Seoul. At the same time, people are urged to report balloons to the military or the police.

    Since late May, North Korea has launched thousands of debris balloons in retaliation for the leaflets previously sent against Pyongyang by activists in South Korea.

    No hazardous materials have been found in the balloons, which largely contained manure, scrap, paper, pieces of plastic and bottles.
