Janne Andersson has been severely criticized.
But Jon Persson still believes in the national team captain.
– He is the right person to lead the national team, says the Radiosporten expert.
There has been a lot of talk about national team captain Janne Andersson over the past year. Sweden missed out on making it to the WC, and has subsequently had a nightmare start to the EC qualifiers, as there have already been losses against Belgium and Austria.
Great criticism
Now it is likely that close to full pot is required in the remaining five matches of the qualification for Sweden if the dream of the EC is to come true, and Andersson has been heavily criticized for his performance during the qualification so far. Criticism has, among other things, been about the tactics, match-coaching and selections, with many saying that he is holding on to older players out of shape for too long.
During Tuesday, for example, the football profile Thomas Wilbacher, who has Sweden’s biggest football podcast Tutto Balutto, went out and demanded change.
“Janne Andersson must be fired immediately as national team captain. How this was not done before the summer is beyond belief! Dated in his tactics, dated in his leadership, lousy match coach,” he wrote on Twitter.

The expert’s defense
But not everyone agrees. Ahead of the qualifying matches against Estonia and Austria, on Saturday and Tuesday, Jon Persson, an expert on Radiosport, confirms that Janne Andersson is still the right man for the national team.
– I think that Janne is the right man to lead this national team, absolutely. However, I think that on the player front we have maybe one or two years left, until we have more players in their “prime”, who can deliver at a higher level, he says.
However, Jon Persson understands that questions about Janne’s future will be asked if there is a loss of points during the current collection.
– Sweden has missed championships before, it is clear that it will affect, and it is clear that Janne will then be questioned. But as I see it, he is still the right person to lead the national team.
