“He’s proven that now”

Coach Hans Larsson has long known what Ludvig Åberg is up to.
Now the whole golf world knows it too.
– It’s magical to see him, says Larsson after second place in the US Masters.

There was a big hug party when the family and the team around Ludvig Åberg was finally able to state that the nervousness – and the great entertainment – at Augusta National was over.

Åberg’s success

Admittedly, there was no victory in the US Masters, but a somewhat sensational second place and a definite feeling that Åberg will be in contention for more major titles in the future.

The trainer Hans Larsson was full of admiration for how Åberg, 24, handled the first major of his career at the storied course in Georgia.
– There are no limits for him, he has proven that today and I think he has felt that before as well, says Larsson.

Paying tribute to Ludvig

Halfway through Sunday’s round, Ludvig Åberg, after three birdies, had the feeling of victory when he shared the lead with Scottie Schefflerbut then came that fatal miss on the eleven that cost the Swede two strokes.
– It would have been really exciting to see if it hadn’t gone down the drain on eleven, because he was probably keen to give Scheffler a match today, says Larsson.
– But to prove to himself that he is up and running in one of the biggest competitions, if not the biggest. It is clear that it is a great receipt that he is on the right path.

Hans Larsson was moved by Åberg’s effort, not least when he thought back to their nine years together. Their paths crossed for the first time when Åberg started the golf gymnasium in Helsingborg.

Pretty soon, Larsson realized that that teenager from Eslöv had something extra – and that feeling has only strengthened over the years.
– He has no weaknesses, but has really only built on making his strengths even stronger.

Seventh in the world

Åberg now climbs to seventh place in the world rankings, a huge achievement after only ten months as a professional.
– I knew he will be dangerous when he comes out, it’s just that the world didn’t know about him yet. As long as you are an amateur, you are not really visible, says Hans Larsson.

When he hugged Åberg after the success, he also had a clear feeling that in the long run the Scanian golf comet will not be satisfied with “just” second places in majors.
– He is happy that it has gone well. But I feel somewhere that “damn – he wanted more”.
– It’s not that far until the PGA championships (in May), says Larsson.
