On April 13 last year, he lost his son, when Herman Nilica, 23, was shot to death in a parking garage in Karlshamn. The district court sentenced the then 19-year-old shooter to 15 years in prison for murder.
But the case was appealed to the Court of Appeal, which today acquitted the man of murder. Instead, he is sentenced to weapons offenses and just over three years in prison.
– How can it swing like this? Gerold Nilica asks himself.
The Court of Appeal believes that the now 20-year-old shooter acted in self-defence, when Herman Nilica allegedly attacked with a machete. That the now 20-year-old man is acquitted of the murder means that Herman’s family is not entitled to any compensation.
– I don’t care that much about the money. But I think it should be right, you can’t just shoot a person and not get anything for it. That is the problem. It sends completely wrong signals to the younger ones.
Critical of the prosecutor’s work
He also criticizes the prosecutor Lena-Marie Bergström and the work of the police.
– It is a big defeat for her. Perhaps it shows that the police and the prosecutor did not do enough. It probably hurts her body a bit, I can imagine.
