Heritage Days take place this year on September 17 and 18. They are an opportunity to discover or rediscover places steeped in history with the children. Here are our ideas for activities to do with the family during this weekend like no other.

Organized by the Ministry of Culture, the European Heritage Days take place this year on September 17 and 18, 2022 and have as their theme “sustainable heritage”. These days are a privileged moment to discover with the family buildings usually closed to the public and to participate in various and varied activities and in particular in workshops for children, games, meetings and exchanges with professionals… Here is the selection of the editorial staff.

1-House of Normandy Architecture in Rouen

Omnipresent in our daily life, architecture remains relatively unknown. The Maison de l’Architecture de Normandie has set itself the task of making people discover the art of building in a different light and offers children an original workshop. the occasion of heritage days. Between imagination and creation, the musical and playful workshop “Let’s draw music!” allows them, in fact, to compose music by drawing (the gesture of drawing creates the sound score, without needing to know music theory), thanks to to the UPISketch application created by the Iannis Xenakis Center. 2-Trôo Cave Village in Trôo

Located in the Loir Valley, Trôo is an old troglodyte city dating from medieval times which was built in the heart of the rocks. As one of the small cities of character, it includes six monuments classified as historical monuments. Next weekend, a “visit of Trôo with Inspector Randoland” is offered to the youngest! This is a treasure hunt for children from 4 to 12 years old based on a playful visit to the heritage of Trôo, during which children will have to identify the different crossing points and solve puzzles. 3-City of architecture & heritage in Paris

As part of the exhibition-workshop “Architectures in a box” organized at the Cité de l’architecture & du Patrimoine, a new event is offered to children and families. On the program of this carte blanche: workshop and short conversation with Didier Cornille, designer and author-illustrator, to discover new construction games in an offbeat way. Didier Cornille leads the workshop “Ville Multicolore en papier” which allows the production, using strips of colored paper, of elementary and expressive volumes. 4-Centre Pompidou-Metz in Metz

Supported by the Center Pompidou in Paris, the Center Pompidou-Metz is designed as a space for discovering artistic creation in all its forms. During heritage days, he offers the “Small screen” workshop. Surrounded by technicians, props and assistants, the children who will take part in this workshop will be able to give free rein to their imagination, write stories, create scenes and dub dialogues., etc. Their game setting: a real TV studio, with a writing office (for scripts and dialogues), a film set (with decor and costumes), not to mention a viewing room. 5-Agde Museum in Agde

Nestled in the heart of the historic center of Agde, in a Renaissance hotel, the Agathois Museum was founded in 1935 and offers the thematic visit “At the heart of the collections and the city”. Organized around permanent exhibitions, and around the museum building, it allows children to establish a direct link with the various heritage sites of the city such as the Laurens castle, the Saint-Etienne cathedral, the navy of Agde and the old commercial and fishing port in particular. 6-Alexis de Tocqueville Library in Caen

7-Museum of Modern Art in Paris

A symbol of modernity and avant-garde, the Tower has inspired many poets and great painters. The reserve of the Vaulx-en-Velin firefighters museum thus offers activities for the youngest. 9-Megaliths and Landes house in Saint-Just

The museography of the Maison Mégalithes et Landes offers an original and fun route on the theme of the Neolithic. Aimed at beginners as well as insiders, the permanent exhibition tells the story of the lives of men and women of this distant era and allows you to better understand their creations: the megaliths. During the Heritage Days, two activities are offered to the youngest: a “archaeological excavation workshop”allowing you to study a (dummy) site equipped with archaeologist’s tools, and to try out deductive reasoning to understand what it says and a workshop on “The study of small seeds: the apprentice carpologist” , to find out what our Neolithic ancestors ate (seeds, berries, kernels, etc.). 10-Departmental archives of Puy-de-Dôme, Clermont-Ferrand

The Departmental Archives of Puy-de-Dôme collect, classify, preserve and promote the archival documents of the administrations, communities and public establishments of the department, as well as private archives. They offer the workshop “Cinema, how does it work?” on the occasion of Heritage Days. 11-Forecourt of the Saint-Urbain basilica in Troyes

The Basilica of Saint-Urbain is a thirteenth-century church in the Gothic style. The association L’Outil en Main de Troyes organizes a demonstration and an introduction to heritage trades for children aged 9 to 14. During this day, volunteers and retirees will introduce the young participants to the work and know-how of wood, bookbinding, sculpture and stained glass. Free introduction.
