    • Theatrical release: When will the 5th Hunger Games film come out?

    The 5th Hunger Games movie opens on November 6, 2023 in German cinemas and is therefore closer to us than in the USA, where the start date is November 17th. The spin-off to the popular Hunger Games series was announced even before the book was published in May 2020.

    Storyline: What is the Hunger Games prequel about?

    The 5th film is based on the Book template The Hunger Games X. The Song of the Bird and the Serpent * (Original: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes). Like the previous trilogy, the prequel was written by US author Suzanne Collins. And our reading report shows: The plot of the novel is perfectly suited for a film adaptation.

    The X in the German book title refers to the new action time as a Roman numeral: The Panem Tributes – The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes shows the 10. Hunger Games, so it’s set 64 years before Katniss Everdeen, whose first Hunger Games is the 74th installment of the dystopian event. In the 10th implementation, the Hunger Games are not that far developed (but already rich in Hunger Games Easter Eggs). For example, there are no voluntary tributes yet; the event takes place in a manageable stadium in the capital; and distinguished Capitol students, in place of past winners, mentor the selected youth of the 12 districts.

    Coriolanus Snow, who will be President (Donald Sutherland) of Panem in Katniss’s day, is a young man whose once wealthy family has fallen far in The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. As an orphan, he lives with his grandmother and his cousin Tigris in modest circumstances. As Mentor to District 12 female tribute, Lucy Gray Baird he hopes for social advancement. But as the games progress, the two develop more feelings for each other.

    It is currently not known whether The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will also receive a sequel. Suzanne Colling has yet to announce plans for a sequel. But a film success of the prehistory could of course change that.
