A study has revealed the most popular European destinations for proposing. And the one that arrives on the first step of the podium might well surprise you. Revelations.

For an unforgettable marriage proposal, there is one address that is particularly appealing. Whether it’s to get down on one knee or a simple romantic getaway, it’s the most romantic place to be. While, until now, Paris was proudly at the top of the ranking, the city of love seems to have slipped. So what is this city that is now in the lead and the destinations to join the top 3?

For its investigation, the travel agency Weloveholidays based itself on the number of Instagram publications including the hashtags #marriageproposal and #engagement and discovered the most popular European cities for a marriage proposal without a false note. At the bottom of the ranking, in tenth position, we find the cities of Palermo and Syracuse, on the island of Sicily, in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea. Their gardens and white sand beaches are not without displeasing couples looking for marriage. France makes its first appearance in the ranking with a well-deserved eighth place thanks to the region of Provence, perceived as the romantic setting par excellence in which to ask for the hand of your partner. In fifth place is Ibiza in Spain, popular for its vibrant nightlife and party culture.

Then comes the top 3. Santorini, Greece, takes the third step, promising a most majestic photo in the heart of its picturesque blue and white villas. Paris wins the silver medal. An iconic city of love and romance, it seduces with its history, its emblematic streets and its romantic bridges.

But the one that wins all the votes is none other than the region of Tuscany in Italy. The cities of Florence, Siena and Pisa would today be the most sought after for an idyllic marriage proposal. Their decor and atmosphere put this destination at the top of the ranking, less than a two-hour flight from Paris. Enough to tick all the boxes!
