Midjourney, the AI generator specialized in image creation, is free again! Thanks to its new web interface, it is much easier to use. Be careful, this is a temporary access: hurry up and take advantage of it!
Like DALL-E, Midjourney fascinates the Internet with its ability to generate incredible images from a simple text command from the user. No special skills are required other than knowing how to write – unlike software like Photoshop, which are much more technical. However, it was not the most accessible image generator on the Internet. Indeed, unlike other image-generating AIs, which are accessible on a simple web page, you had to go to a Discord server to be able to take advantage of Midjourney’s services by entering “prompts” – a kind of command – to describe the desired result to the bot. Things did not improve since, in the spring of 2023, Midjourney decided to no longer allow free accounts to create images, following the deployment of the fifth version (v5), which made it possible to generate much more realistic and detailed images (see our article). The tool is currently at version 6.1.
The company, however, appears to have decided to backtrack. In a tweet published On August 21, 2024, Midjourney announced that it is once again possible to create images for free, directly from their new web interface. All you need to do is log in with a Google or Discord account. Take advantage of it now at this addressbecause it’s temporary!

Midjourney: a free but limited version
Midjourney’s new web interface is quite intuitive. Once logged in, a sidebar on the left displays tabs for different sections and tasks. The “Create” tab, as its name suggests, allows you to generate an image by entering a prompt. Customization options allow you to choose the image format (landscape, portrait, square), the Midjourney version, the “artistic” degree of the result obtained or its degree of “strangeness”. This makes it easier to modulate what you want to achieve. Once this is done, the AI will generate four images in about ten seconds. An image editor then allows you to modify the prompt or specific areas of an image, change the aspect ratio, adjust the scale and even add new elements.
The platform also has a library that gathers all the images generated by the user. Useful for finding a specific image without having to go back up a Discord channel for several kilometers. It is also possible to organize your creations in folders, filter them by format or version and perform searches by keyword. Midjourney does not forget its community aspect. Thus, the “Explore” menu allows you to browse the public creations of other users and to assign them “likes”, while a chat allows you to receive advice from other members of the community.
For Midjourney, this is an opportunity to promote its young website and try to convert some of the curious into paying subscribers. Because obviously, the free version of Midjourney is limited in terms of time, but also volume. This formula only allows you to generate 25 images maximum, or 5 different prompts. Afterwards, it is always possible to create a new Google account to reset the counter and bypass this limit! Otherwise, you have to pay by subscribing to one of these four packages: Basic ($10/month), Standard ($30/month), Pro ($60/month) and Mega ($120/month).
