Karga’s answer is as follows: “After arresting Moff Gideon, she was assigned to a special unit.” That settles the matter in the episode. Contrary to speculation that Cara Dune dies an off-screen death in The Mandalorian, she was adopted by the New Republic transferred to another unit.
The creatives behind the series are therefore leaving open the possibility of bringing the character back one day. However, it is very unlikelythat Carano takes over the role again. Should Cara Dune actually show up again somewhere in the Star Wars universe, we should expect a replacement.

Although Cara Dune has been part of The Mandalorian since Season 1, Famuyiwa makes it clear that she is not the heart of the series. Rather, those responsible in the 3rd Season wanted the focus back on the two central figures direct the series: Din and Grogu. We will find out in the next few weeks whether they succeeded.
