World Cup fans were not allowed to hang the Ukrainian flag.
Then they did the only thing right.
Now the ingenious feature is being hailed.
The Hockey World Cup is in full swing in Tampere and Helsinki, Finland, but it is not as usual. Russia invaded Ukraine earlier in the spring, and as a result, the nation has been banned from virtually all sporting events.
Prohibition of the flags
The Hockey World Cup is no exception and the tournament, which is so important for the Russian people and also Vladimir Putin – who has ice hockey as his big favorite sport. Instead, Russia has had its “own” World Cup, in which Belarus, among others, participated. But you are not allowed to participate in the World Cup.
Ukraine does not participate in the championship either, but the fans in the World Cup arenas are clear about what position they are taking. During the tournament, it has sometimes been possible to see Ukrainian flags hanging in the stands as support. But the organizer has been clear that it is strictly forbidden to show support for Ukraine in the arenas.
Ingenious feature
It is pointed out that it is forbidden to hang flags for nations that do not participate in the tournament, and during a match on Monday, Czech supporters were asked to take down the Ukrainian flag that was hung. But then the supporters chose to do the only thing right – by finding a completely magical loophole.
The supporters chose to take a white sheet, and on the upper side write “blue color”, and on the lower side “yellow color”. In other words, it was a Ukrainian flag that happened – but in writing.
The images on the “flag” have spread enormously in the hockey world – and everyone agrees that it is a perfect way to circumvent the rules at the World Cup arena, but still show support for the war-torn Ukraine.
