In a lecture hall at Malmö University, the discussions are in full swing. About thirty students have just seen a film about preschoolers and many want to share their experiences and reflections.

– You are a teacher in all countries. It’s a job that has no boundaries, says language teacher Olga Skoryk who lives in Malmö.

Educated about the Swedish school system

During four weeks, Ukrainians are trained about the Swedish school system in order to be able to work as, for example, teaching assistants and support Ukrainian students already when the autumn semester starts.

– The question is whether the Swedish school is prepared to receive them. We don’t know that yet, says Anders Linde-Laursen, dean at the Faculty of Learning and Society.

Great interest

Malmö University is the first in the country to, on behalf of the National Education Agency, hold the introductory course. The entire class has pedagogical experience from the home country and the students get to learn about curricula and learning processes but also discuss cultural issues.

Just three days after the information about the course was published, the university had received over 80 applications.

– We have people from southern Sweden. Some from Malmö and Lund, but most come from outside, says Liselotte Dahlbeck, who teaches the course together with several colleagues.
