Even though the lifts are closed, it is possible to ski downhill on the patches of snow that remain in the mountain world. Mountain guide Daniel Widell and his friend Pelle Edlund usually take the chance when the weather permits.
– We see it as a good training session. When we are still outside, we throw the skis and boots on the backpack and go up the mountain instead of going out for a run, says Daniel Widell.
– We try to go all year round. A few years ago, we could go once every month, says Pelle Edlund.
Have to think about safety
During the summer months, the snow can be hard packed and only lies in certain places on the mountain. Therefore, it is important to think about speed and choice of ride, according to Widell.
– The snow field is not that wide. If you fall, you can slide down rocky sections, unlike when it’s winter and fluffy everywhere, he says.
