Shortly after 3pm on Thursday, Czech police were alerted to a shooting at Jan Palach Square, which is close to many tourist attractions in central Prague.
At 3:20 p.m., Czech Interior Minister Vit Rakusan was informed that the suspected shooter was lying on a ledge at Charles University with “devastating injuries,” writes The Guardian. At the time, it was still unclear if shot himself or was injured by police gunfire.
The footage shows the police force running into the university building and shouting instructions as they make their way up the stairs.
Around 4 p.m., the police announced that the suspected shooter was dead. According to eyewitnesses, he took his own life. He was later identified as 24-year-old David Kozak.
Wanted by police before the crime
Hours before the first shots were fired, David Kozak was wanted by police after his father was found dead outside Prague.
Police began evacuating a university building where it was believed that Kozak was attending a lecture, but it would appear that he instead went to another part of the university, writes the BBC.
During the hour-long sequence of events, 14 people lost their lives in what is the deadliest attack in Czech history.
Martin Vondrásek, head of the Prague police, announced on Thursday evening that the death toll could rise. 25 people were injured in the shooting, of which three are foreign nationals, two from Saudi Arabia and one from the Netherlands, writes The Guardian.
