Here the suspected perpetrator is being hunted in Annecy

The man arrested for the knife attack in France is said to have shouted “in the name of Jesus Christ” during the attack, reports Le Figaro. The prosecutors say that the motive is unclear, but that it is not an act of terrorism.

It was just before 10 o’clock that the police were called to a park in central Annecy. A man in his 30s is suspected of having attacked people in the park. Four children and two adults were injured in the attack. The children are all under the age of three and are being cared for with life-threatening injuries. The suspect is married to a Swedish woman and is the father of a three-year-old child, reports Le Figaro.

The man is in his 30s and from Syria. He was wearing a Christian cross when he was arrested and is said to have shouted “in the name of Jesus Christ” during the attack, reports Le Figaro. The prosecutors in the case say that the motive is unclear, but that it is not an act of terrorism.

– It is a person who has refugee status in Sweden, so he can circulate in the European Union, says the Prime Minister of France, Élisabeth Borne.

According to SVT Nyheter, the man is from Western Sweden.

– He was part of our family but has disappeared from Sweden, says a relative of the suspected perpetrator to SVT Nyheter Väst.

Popular excursion destination

The crime occurred in a park that is a popular tourist destination and excursion destination for families with children. Several of the victims are foreign nationals, Reuters reports.

– I go to this park all the time. My husband met the attacker yesterday morning, he was talking to himself, says a witness to Le Figaro.

Another witness says the man has been seen in the park daily recently

– He was there every day and people noticed him because he was completely alone, the witness told France Bleu Pays de Savoie.
