The events took place in April 2024, when the woman stated that she could not cope with school and wanted to go home earlier.
She therefore set fire to the paper holders of three different toilets to cause a fire alarm that would cause the school to be evacuated and the students to be sent.
The student initially denied the allegations, but later confessed. In her cell phone, the police found a video of the girl lighting a fire and also messages in which the student urges her friend not to reveal their involvement in the fire.
Denies arson
During the trial, she denied arson and believes that her purpose was not for the whole school to burn, nor for there to be as much smoke as it actually did.
During the incident, one teacher was forced to jump from the second floor to safety, and two other teachers had to seek medical attention after inhaling smoke.
The value of the destroyed property amounts to at least SEK 2.7 million.
Remains at school
The female student who was 19 years old at the time and has also been subject to efforts from social services for a long time. She remains at school and her mentor confirms that she is now focusing on her studies.
Arson normally results in two years in prison – but she is instead sentenced to both probation and three months in prison with requirements for treatment and care.
She must also pay SEK 20,000 in damages to one of the teachers who inhaled smoke during the fire.
The issue of compensation for the extensive clean-up work has not yet been decided.
