Here the ski jump in Särna is blown away

– For me personally, it feels tragic as I was involved from the start and started this, says Örjan Sjögren, former chairman of Särna Backhopparklubb.

The ski jumps in Särna were inaugurated in 1995 and are owned by Älvdalen municipality, through the municipal property company Nodaf.

“A kind of monument”

The plan was to demolish the slopes a few years ago, but the municipality waited a bit, as Särna village council wanted to review the possibilities of managing the slopes.

– Maybe they could be renovated as they are a kind of monument. So then the demolition was paused, but then we realized what condition they were in, says Thomas Kjellsson, CEO of Nodaf.

Shall develop the area

After the demolition, the plan is to continue developing the ski area that the municipality owns.

– There are ideas with mountain bike trails, for example, so we will make sure to support and develop the area. It’s an era that goes to the grave but the starting shot for the next one, says Thomas Kjellsson.
