Here, the police want to introduce a new law – to be able to confiscate cars

Here the police want to introduce a new law

The summer is slowly but surely coming to an end and rested Swedes are now starting to return to school and work around the country.

But for some, this year’s warm months have been anything but calm – at least not at night.

The police chief: “More deterrent”

Banging exhaust pipes and rushing engines have led to sleepless nights for many who live in central Malmö. Although the problem has been recurring for several years, the summer is described as the worst so far, according to Sydsvenskan.

The police chief in Malmö, Mathias Nilssonbelieves that a change in the law is required to remedy the problem. Confiscating drivers’ licenses or fining motorists does not seem to be enough, but instead they want to be able to impound vehicles that make loud noises, in order to carry out a technical examination at a later stage that can determine whether the car is modified or not.

– I think it is more of a deterrent if you can actually act quickly and seize the car on the spot and then carry out an investigation.

The Malmö police are watching the UK

Currently, it is not possible for Swedish police to impound vehicles with loud noises as a reason. However, it is possible in, for example, Great Britain.

The police in Malmö are therefore investigating how the British police work in the matter.

– We discuss with them how they use their legislation and see if there are any nuggets of gold there that we can suggest using here at home, says Mathias Nilsson to South Swedenat the same time as he emphasizes that the problem exists elsewhere in Sweden and that more police officers will want to see the law tightened.
