Here the Juoksengibon swings over the spring river

Torne river has flooded.
The floods are the worst in over 50 years and affect both home care services, schools and residents’ homes.
– I have never experienced this much water. Never ever, says rescue leader Roland Mäki.

The Torne river is characterized by the worst floods since 1968. In the upper Kuivakangas, both roads and lots have been replaced – for water.

TV4’s reporter Katarina Lindmark is there:

– It is because it has rained and been hot in the mountain world. Then the snow has melted and there has been snowmelt and rain, she says.

Country merchant Anna Jaako is almost surrounded by water and the road to the shop is closed. Despite that, she has been able to stay open.

– You had to take some detours to get here. Since then they have also been cordoned off due to the water levels. So it’s all a bit unique, she says.

The shopkeeper: “The dry goods are dry so far”

“The school children don’t come to school”

Several homes have been surrounded by water and the residents have had to get home by boat. Admittedly, several of the people TV4 Nyheter talked to think it has turned out very beautiful. But above all tragic.

Several have had their properties destroyed and it is not just people’s homes that have been affected. The problems extend to large parts of Kuivakanga’s society.

– The school children don’t come to school, the home services have problems meeting their users who need help at home and the technical services have problems with sewers that have overflowed, says rescue leader Roland Mäki.
