Here, the French minister is bathing in the Seine – despite alarms about E.coli

Soon the Olympics in Paris will start. Then the triathlon and the open water swim of 10 kilometers will be carried out in the river Seine, which has been heavily polluted for many years and has now been cleaned before the competitions.

But the water purification has not been without problems. A few weeks ago, samples were published that showed too high levels of E.coli bacteria, which risks giving the swimmers diarrhea and illness.

The sports minister’s dip: “What joy”

During Sunday, the sports minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, who wanted to show that it is possible to swim in the Seine at the Olympics, took a dip in the river.

– What a joy. It’s just fantastic and a promise kept, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra told RMC television, referring to promises that the water purification measures will work.

Even the mayor of Paris and French President Macron have promised to take a dip in the Seine to silence the doubters. They have two weeks to fulfill the promise before the Paris Olympics open on July 26.
