A week after the devastating earthquake, the rescue work continues with positive results. During the day, several children could be rescued from the mobs.
In the city of Atakay in eastern Turkey, a 13-year-old boy was found on Monday afternoon – miraculously still alive.
35,000 dead
Over 35,000 dead have been confirmed after the earthquake. The death toll continues to rise. In addition to the death toll rising, rescue organizations announced that efforts will be concentrated on helping, supporting and caring for those who survived.
Rescue efforts and coordinated aid shipments to vulnerable areas in Turkey are ongoing, although the central government in Ankara and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan are criticized for not providing enough aid.
It is worse in Syria.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is waiting for the final green light to allow aid operations into rebel-held areas of northern Syria. The issue of reaching out is being addressed by the UN Security Council in a specially convened meeting in New York on Monday.
