In Finland, upper secondary education ends with a matriculation degree. By taking the matriculation exams, you must demonstrate that you possess the knowledge that you must acquire during upper secondary school according to the curriculum.
The exams are usually taken at the end of high school. The student’s degree consists of at least five tests. All are examined in the subject of mother tongue and literature. You also have to take tests in foreign languages, mathematics and one of the so-called real subjects, i.e. history, religion, physics, chemistry, biology, psychology or philosophy.
