Rarely has a saying fitted a player as well as hard, harder, Schwarz did on Stefan Schwarz. He is one of Swedish football’s true greats, and with his enormous will and attitude, he fought his way straight into the hearts of every football-loving Swede.

Magic career

Stefan Schwarz broke through in Malmö during the 80s, but the giant breakthrough still came during the World Cup in 1994, when Sweden shocked the world by taking a sensational third place. And a lot is to be thanked for Schwarz, who was the anchor in the midfield that carried Sweden during the championship.

But it wasn’t just in the Swedish national team uniform that Schwarz dominated. In addition to the WC bronze, the icon had a truly fabulous club team career, with games in some of Europe’s most classic clubs. In total, there were games in six different countries during his career, and Schwarz was always the crowd favorite, and it’s easy to understand considering that he just always gave his absolute best.

Shaggy dream elf

After the breakthrough in Malmö, there were games in Benfica, and then Arsenal, Fiorentina, Valencia and then back to England for games in Sunderland, where he ended his career in 2003. Over the years, there were games with some of the most legendary players of all time, and when Schwarz gets take out his own dream eleven of teammates over the years it is nothing short of magical reading.
